Your Bad Habits May Cause Periodontal Disease

May 29th, 2008

If the periodontal disease remains untreated, it could spread to and under the gum line and become periodontitis. A cause of periodontal disease
is basically an infection raging in your gums that can ultimately cause
the loss of teeth if untreated. Smoking significantly increases a
person’s chances for developing a periodontal disease. Smoking is known
to weaken the immune system and therefore makes it harder for the body
to fight of the infection causing the periodontal disease. A poor diet
that does not emphasize balance and proper servings will also weaken
your body and its ability to fight infections. However, it is also
quite common for periodontal disease to be a symptom of a larger
medical problem. At the first sign of symptoms, consult with a dentist
immediately.
