When Gingivitis And Periodontitis Connect

May 23rd, 2008

When the most of us think about periodontal gum disease, we probably don’t realize that gingivitis and periodontitis
are really just different stages of the same condition. If mild
gingivitis was the only concern among dental professionals, your oral
health would probably not be that big of a deal-if only things were
that simple. If left untreated, gingivitis will progress into mild gum
disease especially after tartar forms on your teeth. Good oral hygiene
may not be enough to save your gums. A reason why a lack of saliva will
hurt chances of preventing gum disease and gingivitis is because the
enzymes help produce antibodies. The antibodies help neutralize
anaerobic bacteria populations and naturally prevent gingivitis or
periodontitis from ever forming.
