Eczema refers to the group of medical conditions that cause the skin to become inflamed or irritated. Atopic dermatitis
is the most common type of eczema, or what we call atopic eczema. This
is associated with inherited tendency to develop other allergic
conditions, like hay fever and asthma. It is accompanied by skin
itching, no matter which part of the skin is affected. Before the rash
starts to appear, itching starts to attack and the rash commonly occurs
on the face, knees, hands and feet. Other areas of the body are also
affected as well. The affected areas usually appear very scaly, dry and
thickened. Initially, it appears as reddish and eventually turns brown.
Still the exact cause of eczema still remains unknown. Added to that,
heredity plays a vital role in passing eczema from one generation to
another. And it is also commonly found in families that have history of
asthma and other certain allergies. In certain substance some people
may experience having eczema flare-ups. Rough, course, scratchy and
tight materials that can come in contact with the skin can cause it to
become itchy. Too hot and extreme cold feelings as well as household
products exposure can be a trigger for having an outbreak. The skin
condition may also be worsen by stress. Medical treatment for eczema
can help people manage their skin disease and through avoiding
irritants. The condition itself is not contagious.
