What causes dry skin?

May 10th, 2008

Our skin contains oil glands that release oil to prevent the skin from
drying. This is the most basic principle we have to understand about our skin.
The role of this oil is to keep the skin in moisture, leaving it soft and
supple. It serves as a barrier in the skin matrix to trap water from fast loss
and evaporation. However, if the oil has been stripped away, water in the body
can easily evaporate and this cause dry skin. Dry
skin
can be painful if it is especially strike directly by the sun. Or it
can bring skin itchiness if it is overly exposed outside.

Dry skin can be the cause of environmental factors or internal health
condition of the body which makes your skin dry. As early as possible this
should be treated to avoid complications like dermatitis. Inflammation of the
skin, swelling and infection can be a big problem in the future if taken for
granted.
