The use of tobacco and continues smoking can lead to gum infection

September 23rd, 2008

Gum infection has two
major stages and these are gingivitis and periodontitis. The early and mild
stage is commonly called gingivitis and it is being identified with the
following symptoms, red gums, tenderness, bleeding and swollen gums. If this
early stage is not given treatment it will develop to more serious damage and
can destruct the condition of gums and teeth. Tobacco and smoking can worsen
the disease and can advance the damage faster. Individuals holding on to this
bad habit are at higher risk of bone loss and gum pockets.

The effective prevention
of gum
infection
is we can get in proper oral care practice. An individual should
observe oral hygiene such as regular brushing and flossing and must be imposed
in their daily habits. It is also recommended that bad habits such as smoking,
drinking too much alcohol, and eating unhealthy food are avoided.
