Take Heed On Gum Disease And Tooth Decay Issues

June 18th, 2008

While many of us take the time to practice good oral hygiene, our oral
health is always imperiled by nearly two dozen different types of
anaerobic bacteria. When you are having problems salivating due to
dehydration or some other factor, the bacteria will breed faster and an
infection may begin in your gingival tissue. One of the last things any
of us wants to spend time worrying about is gum disease tooth
problems. Gingivitis does indeed occur when gum disease prevention has
failed but it is a relatively mild form of gum disease. In general, gum
disease treatments for this minor form of periodontal disease tend to
be limited to a teeth cleaning. The dentist will need to remove any
tartar with a thorough scraping as this is a favorite hiding spot for
anaerobic bacteria and normal oral hygiene cannot penetrate behind this
ossified layer. Gum disease prevention may not seem like a big priority
but the problem can quickly spiral out of control and cause serious
consequences.
