Why Preventing Gum Disease Is A Must For Your Health

April 18th, 2008

Many of us already know that good oral hygiene is essential where preventing gum disease
problems is concerned. By brushing your teeth and flossing daily, you
are removing or neutralizing the harmful anaerobic bacteria responsible
for periodontal gum disease problems. Unfortunately, good oral hygiene
may not be enough to prevent periodontal gum disease problems from
starting in your mouth. This is because dehydration causes gum disease
problems due to lowered salivation rates. Saliva helps prevent gum
disease because it has high levels of oxygen and natural enzymes which
neutralize the anaerobic bacteria. A great many tooth and gum disease
problems could be avoided by simply avoiding behaviors or substances
that lead to dehydration. By keeping the mouth well-salivated and using
good oral hygiene practices, preventing gum disease is very simple.

Prevent Gum Disease With Information About Your Dental Health

April 18th, 2008

Not nearly enough people know how to prevent gum disease
because there are over thirty million people with advanced periodontal
(gum) disease, let alone the milder version known as gingivitis. What
complicates gum disease prevention, however, is the fact that our
mouths are always filled with the harmful anaerobic bacteria that are
ultimately responsible for the condition. Preventing gum disease and
other potential medical problems is impossible unless the body has the
raw materials it needs to function properly. The treatment of gum
disease will not be necessary in most cases so long as the body is
healthy and has the nutrients it needs to repel infection. Poor oral
hygiene is clearly the biggest single factor behind every periodontal
gum disease and the condition is inevitable when you fail to remove the
plaque using good oral hygiene practices like brushing and flossing
daily.

What Periodontal Gum Disease May Mean To Your Dental Health

April 18th, 2008

Periodontal or gum disease
is simply not a medical problem that most of us take seriously and this
is not hard to believe because most dentists tend to focus on tooth
decay rather than our gums. While cavities are very common and can
spread harmful bacteria to other parts of the body, the fact remains
that preventing gum disease may be even more important for your health
(and budget). Gum disease is caused by harmful bacteria in your mouth
which create an infection in your gingival tissue. Treating gum disease
is relatively simple so long as the condition is above the gum line. Be
sure to prevent the condition from ever starting by brushing and
flossing daily in order to remove the harmful bacteria that cause all
of the problems.
