Bed Rest: The Most Common Pain Relief Technique
For patients with back pain, bed rest was
frequently prescribed. But on the other hand, several studies have
shown that this kind of pain relief technique
can adversely affect the course and outcome of the treatment. It was
found out that one in randomized clinical trial that patients that
undergo two days of bed rest have same outcomes to those patients that
have had bed rest for seven days. What is currently recommended is two
or three days of bed rest in a supine position. Sitting in a reclined
position should be avoided because it actually raises intradiscal
pressure and can worsen back pain.
