Psoriasis is a skin disease that causes scaling and swelling of the
skin. Most of the time it begins in the immune system, mainly with a
type of white blood cell called a T cell. Psoriasis skin disease can be
hard to diagnose because it can look like other skin diseases.
Psoriasis usually appears as red, scaly patches that reveal fine
silvery scales when scraped or scratched and usually is most common on
the knees, elbows and scalp, but can appear anywhere on the body. The
terrible skin disorder can run in families but often skips a
generation. Psoriasis treatments like creams and ointments are usually the first tried, followed by tablets and treatment with ultraviolet light.
