Plaque is the major cause of gum disease

May 10th, 2008

Plaque
is a colorless residue that builds up on the teeth. It contains microorganism
that may cause tooth decay because of the bacteria present and it is the major
cause of gum diseases.

Parents should be the one to guide children in constant cleaning of teeth.
Teaching them to floss regularly will prevent inflammation of gums. Toddlers
kids are to young too do this so it is best that you do the flossing for them.
Because the primary cause of gum disease is the build up of plaque, we have to
be aware of the plaque forming substances which allow bacterial growth inside
the mouth. Some child habits like thumb sucking (which must be avoided) may
displace teeth will also make harder to remove plaque as well as crooked teeth.
