Periodontal disease or gum disease is a critical health issue to
tackle. There are tons of products out on the market that are supposed
to fight plaque which is the main cause of periodontal disease. Plaque
itself is caused by bacteria that are always present in our mouth.
However, if plaque is not removed using good oral hygiene, it will
ossify or harden and become tartar. Harmful bacteria breed much faster
behind tartar because saliva, the body’s natural defense against the
bacteria, cannot get behind it. And tartar, must be removed by a
dentist during one of those unpleasant cleanings we so love to avoid.
If not removed, that tartar will be the launching point of the bacteria
that will eventually invade your gums and give you one periodontal
disease. While most of us are familiar with gingivitis, the truth is
that there are several periodontal diseases that we should worry about.
The best way to avoid the periodontal diseases
is to practice good oral hygiene each and every day. This should remove
the plaque and potential source of tartar. However, you also want to
control the bacteria so using a mouthwash or similar product made from
all natural ingredients is highly recommended. Try to avoid products
using chemicals or alcohol as these tend to dry the mouth out and
therefore remove the body’s natural defense against bacteria in the
mouth-saliva.
