Meticulousness of having a good oral care prevents gum infection

September 24th, 2008

The major cause of tooth loss in adults
is periodontal disease. It started from an early stage of
gum infection in which develops to severe condition after being
untreated. Later acute condition of gum disease affects bone and tissues which
primarily supports the teeth and gums. Gum becomes sensitive and it easily bled.
Patient with this condition suffers pain and discomfort and eventually gum
pockets are formed leading to tooth loss.

The most effective prevention of gum
disease is through the removal of plaque. Diligence in cleaning the teeth, gums
and tongue is the best oral care practice that can be done at home. Regular
brushing and flossing, accompanied by using saline solution as mouth wash were
the easiest ways of preventing gum infection. The need to have dental check ups
and professional cleanings can also help in the detection of any dental
problems.
