Laxatives Do Not Completely End Abdominal Pains Caused By Constipation

December 5th, 2007

Fecal impactions should be treated well before it leads to serious
health problems far more severe than the abdominal pain and
constipation felt in the initial stages. To relieve temporary
discomfort caused by constipation, laxatives are the most commonly
used. However, laxatives do not function in the elimination and
prevention of fecal impactions. Since this chemical-based treatment do
not cleanse the gastrointestinal tract of feces, waste will continue to
build up on the walls of the colon and intestines leading to future
fecal impactions. And, as fecal impaction returns to the body, so does abdominal pain and constipation.
