Know The Basics Of Periodontal Disease

March 28th, 2008

Periodontal disease is basically described as an infection raging in
your gums that can ultimately cause the loss of teeth if untreated. Its
mildest form called gingivitis has symptoms that are almost always
painless and involve some redness and swelling of the gums. It is also
common for a person to bleed easily when the gums are touched. If
gingivitis remains untreated, it could spread to and under the gum line
and become periodontitis. When this happens, the periodontal disease
will worsen until both gums and bone begin to dissolve until teeth
begin to fall out. You can actually prevent periodontal disease
when you consider to maximize good oral hygiene, develop a good habit
by not smoking and quitting alcohol, promote proper diet, and having
regular dental checkups.
