Giving Importance To Oral Care During Adolescence

April 18th, 2008

Oral
care
during adolescence is necessary and must be practice by
teens for during this stage they are prone to gum disease cause by
increased level of hormones. Teens that observe and were taught
proper oral care are less likely to get a gum disease compared to the
ones that have poor oral care habits.

Hormonal
changes during adolescence or puberty is one of the risk factors in
having periodontal disease because during these stage there is an
increase in sex hormones: progesterone and estrogen. These hormones
increases the blood circulation in the gums thus leading to gum
sensitivity, and gums are red, swell s and bleed and they feel
tender.

During
puberty it is important that teens take extra care of their oral
health. Proper oral health care hygiene such as brushing and
flossing is necessary to prevent bacteria and an aid with natural
oral health care products are also beneficial. Having dental check
ups and professional cleaning from your dentist is also important,
early signs and symptoms of periodontal disease may be detected and
prevented.
