Gingivitis Is Treatable And Preventable

March 23rd, 2008

Like any other disease, acute illness can progress into the advanced state once taken for granted. Untreated gingivitis
can progress to periodontitis. Periodontitis refers to a serious
infection that destroys the soft tissue and the bone that is supporting
the teeth. The probable outcome will be eventual loss of teeth if the
disease is left untreated. Serious health problems can arise that is
linked with periodontitis like the increase risk for heart attack and
stroke as well as higher blood sugar levels. But do not dwell in
distress, know that periodontitis is preventable and treatable. Prime
factors that can contribute to the disease are smoking, heredity,
drugs, hormonal changes and poor nutrition. The only opportunity to
reduce the development of periodontitis is daily brushing and proper
flossing. In addition to proper oral hygiene, it is recommended that
you should see the dentist for check ups and routine cleanings.
Otherwise, help keep teeth and gums in good condition by eating a
healthy diet.
