Dental plaque is one of the major causes of gum disease

July 7th, 2008

Dental Plaque is spongy and colorless
residue that builds up on the surface of the teeth. It has microorganism that
may cause the tooth to decay because of the bacteria growing and it is the
major cause of gum diseases. Oral hygiene should be practiced at home starting
from the young children where they should be guided in constant cleaning of the
teeth as well as develop the habit of regular oral care. Another way of
cleaning is the use of dental floss which cleanses particularly in between
teeth. Some kids have the habit of sucking thumbs that should be avoided
because it can displace teeth. Crooked teeth are harder to clean and to remove
the plaque that builds up so it is better to stop some habits of kids that
could affect the teeth.
