Prevent Acne

May 31st, 2007

Whatever people may say, acne is not caused by unwashed skin, eating chocolate or gulping colas. Acne is the consequence of overactive oil glands in the skin and a collection of dead skin cells, oil and bacteria which cause irritation in the pores of the skin. Usually when hormones become active during puberty, there is a tendency to develop acne. Acne is genetic too.

There is not sure-shot way to prevent acne but there are ways to reduce its severity. It is a myth that washing your face removes acne. In fact too much washing can actually damage your skin as it can over dry the skin. It is good to exercise because it gives glow to your skin. However you should remember to rinse your face exercising because sweat can clog your pores and increase the acne. Stay away from oily and greasy food if you are acne prone. Use skin products which are ‘nonacnegenic’ or ‘noncomedogenic,’ because they do not clog pores.

Seafood causes cholesterol?

May 31st, 2007

It seems that many people actually do think that cholesterol in seafood will increase the cholesterol level in the blood. They are wrong.

Cholesterol that is found in seafood or other meats actually has little effect on the blood cholesterol level in MOST people. Saturated fats and trans fatty acids are the most important factors that can raise blood cholesterol level, not dietary cholesterol!

Saturated fats usually can be found in those pre-packaged foods or other processed foods that usually contain shortening or partially hydrogenated vegetable oil. On the other hand, trans fatty acids can be found in deep-fried foods, packaged snack foods, or firm margarine containing hydrogenated oil. We are not talking about fresh fish here, but rather pre-processed fish.

Baby sleep problems information and tips.

May 28th, 2007

Here are some tips to help you with your baby sleep problems, one way to deal with your child’s sleep problems is keep your him or her calm during the day, also some people suggest tiring the child out during the day so that he or she will sleep through the night. However a baby will also need their parent to help and guide them through any problems that arise in the first few months after pregnancy.

Its good to be aware that baby sleep problems can be caused by lots of other conditions and problems, such as illness, blocked nose, soiled nappy, pain, hunger or thirst, environmental factors like noise and many other causes. Because your baby is not able to communicate verbally, you will have to be alert and on the ball, so that you can provide them with proper treatment straight away.

Baby’s sleep patterns stages:

During the first three or four months after your pregnancy, a baby requires approximately 15 hours sleep in every 24 hrs. Baby sleep problems often happen during this period because your newborn will only stay asleep for about 4 hours at a time, which is normal. This means you should not expect to have uninterrupted sleep for the first 3 to 4 months and take this time to keep a eye on your baby in case of possible health problems developing.

Also be aware that baby sleep problems and uninterrupted sleep for parents may last for up to 6 months or more; however this can also vary from one baby to an other. Although, you can always help your child with these baby sleep problems by having a bedtime routine that you and your baby follow from the start.

It is very important to make sure your baby gets the right amount of sleep, because if you don’t you will not be able to rest either. Knowing and having the awareness on how to deal with your baby sleeping problems is a very important part of of being a parent. The resistance of the baby to actually going to sleep is probably one of the most common problems. So you need to be aware of when your child is getting tired and ready to sleep. Some sure signs of this is when they pull their ears and rub their eyes, so be sure not to miss this, or you may have a sleepless night yourself.

It is important to understand your baby’s sleep patterns to get him or her to bed when they’re sleepy. Once you have mastered these, you will know instinctively when to put him or her to bed and therefore avoiding any unnecessary baby sleep problems. Lots of parents just don’t teach their baby about the difference between day and night. This is an important step in developing a proper bedtime routine that needs to be introduced as soon as possible after the pregnancy.

Baby sleep problems should not be a issue once they have reached 6 months old. There are several different methods to help your child’s sleep problems such as a song or a story and by also having a regular bedtime. By employing these tactics you shouldn’t have to much of a problem with your baby sleeping at night.

When do you Need a Women’s Health Care Specialist?

May 27th, 2007

Women are usually the stronger of the two sexes.
However, they are prone to a lot of ups and downs once they hit their
late forties due the menopause. Menopausal women experience a great
deal of health problems especially due to the hormonal changes that
this period brings along. This is the time when other diseases creep up
too, such as heart disease, infertility, osteoporosis, uterine
fibroids, fibromyaglia, cervical cancer, breast cancer and so on.

Why Women’s Health Care Specialist is Recommended

In ordinary circumstances, women are okay with the
regular medical practitioner and medical care. However, when age
advances a women’s health care specialist would be a better choice (and
recommended) as such a professional will be able to provide the right
guidance to what tests a woman should do when and what special care a
woman needs to maintain good health.

Besides the medical attention, the women’s health
care specialist would be able to focus on the mental make-up and
upheavals that menopause inflicts on women. This is a difficult time
for women not only because their bodies seem to have a mind of their
own, but also because they are prone to heavy depression bouts,
excitability, mood swings and feeling of hopelessness which does not
help in any way the overall situation.

Many times the hormonal changes are so drastic that these cause
acute and even suicidal depression. When and if such times are coupled
with any of the diseases mentioned a bit earlier, it kind of overwhelms
the women. The role of the women’s health care specialist is here to
keep women healthy physically as well as take care that they receive
sufficient and adequate counseling to equip them to handle the
difficulties that the menopausal period brings along.

The women’s health care specialist hence plays a dual
role – one of a healer and the other of an adviser. Both the roles are
important because women tend to neglect their own health till it is too
late. It is as important for women to know why they are suffering as
what would cure them. During the middle age, there are a lot of ‘whys’
that disturb women’s peace of mind.

A Womens Health Care Clinic: A Friend in Need

May 27th, 2007

Women tend to ignore their pains and aches. They also
put off going to the doctor or taking routine tests that are
recommended once in every two-three years. The result is that their
health usually suffers a great deal as they grow old. There are many
health concerns that women face as they age. Among the most common are
breast cancer, pelvic pain, menopause (which by itself is not a
disease, but it comes with a host of problems), heart disease,
endometriosis, infertility and many others.

Finding the Right Type of Care and Guidance

Going to doctor is okay. However, sometimes women
need a little more attention, a little more focus, a little more
guidance and understanding. Here is where women’s health care clinics
offer an invaluable service. These are good because they specialize not
only in women health care, but also the psychology that accompanies
these diseases and their cure and care.

Aging women need a bit more than medical care; they
need understanding, they need assurance and guidance about the changes
that happen in their body. This is because as they enter their late
forties the menopause plays havoc with the mind and body. When other
diseases affect the body, this causes depression, sense of hopelessness
and sometime deep panic.

Women’s health care clinics concentrate on offering a holistic method
of medical attention which encompasses care of both body and mind. It
is very important for women to have reassurance about how things are
and would be; it is also very important for them to understand what the
problems they are going through are and what are the problems that they
should anticipate. The women’s health care clinics are excellent at
providing the right support and specialized care – just like a friend.

Women’s Reproductive Health is as Important as Other Aspects of Her Health

May 27th, 2007

Women’s reproductive health is often as important as
other aspects of their health and they need to gain a better
perspective of their reproductive system to enable them to understand
just how sensitive their reproductive organs really are. A woman who
becomes concerned with women’s reproductive health may need to
understand how her hormones as well as organs come together to produce
a monthly cycle. Women’s reproductive health is also dependent on the
diet they consume because the food that they intake will impact and
influence their reproductive system’s functioning.

Need to Understand how Hormones and Organs Function Together

A woman’s system often goes out of control and this
would affect their menstrual cycle and lead to their not becoming
pregnant. To ensure those women’s reproductive system stays in sync,
women need to get regular pap smears. An abnormal smear test often
causes distress and fear among women even though it is not necessarily
a sign of cancer or risking developing it in the future.

Since cervical cancer is the second most common
cancer other than breast cancer, taking a smear test is vital as it
helps identify early warning signs of possible cancer and also lead to
halting further growth of cervical cancer. Cancer is destructive of
women’s reproductive health and apart from cervical cancer; women may
also have to contend with uterine cancer or ovarian cancer. In
addition, she may also get ovarian cysts, chronic pelvic pain as well
as fibroids.

That is not to imply that women’s reproductive health is only centered
on the pelvic region because even the breasts are an important part of
the women’s reproductive system which enables the woman to breast feed
her children for years or just months. The risk of contracting breast
cancer is a serious worry to women’s reproductive health which may
cause damage to the breasts and lead to infertility. In the case of a
woman who has had mastectomy it may be rather disconcerting to have
just one breast, but using reconstructive surgery, it is now possible
to have both breasts back again.

Providing Healing Through an Integrated Women’s Health Care Program

May 27th, 2007

Often in the world of Western
medicine, physicians do not have the time or make the time to assess
their patient’s full medical needs. Generally, a few moments are spent
between the doctor and the patient. This time spent together
incorporates questions regarding symptoms, the family’s medical
history, and going over the results of any medical tests that were
ordered.

Also, physicians who are taught in the
discipline of Western medicine do not often incorporate other healing
disciplines. This variety of healing disciplines may be from other
cultures, or alternative methods of healing. In addition, Western
medicine does not consider the prescription of the power of music,
prayer or the power of the mind.

It is important to understand that
humanity is more than just being a biological creature. As men and
women, there is a complexity that comprises many parts that make up the
whole. It stands to reason that if each of the parts are treated, then
the whole person will be healed. Therefore, to provide healing through
an integrated women’s health care program a required approach to
healing, through various methods, can be attained by addressing the
separate parts of the being. Some of those alternative methods include
biofeedback, music therapy and affirmations.

Contemporary Women’s Health

May 27th, 2007

Women from past generations did not
know how to properly take care of themselves for many reasons. The
most prevalent reason that women did not know how to take care of
themselves was simply a lack of medical research and general knowledge
about female health at the time. However, contemporary women’s health
research has resulted in women being much more aware of how to take
care of their bodies.

Contemporary Women’s Health and Exercise

Exercise has always been a popular
activity amongst women, but nowadays women are flocking to the gym more
and more often to sculpt their bodies and keep their moods enlightened.
Contemporary women’s health means that women have the option of joining
private gyms just for women, which makes the sometimes uncomfortable
process of getting in shape more tolerable, since everyone is there for
the same reason.

Gyms offer a variety of options for
getting in shape, and the great thing about contemporary women’s health
when it comes to exercise is that there are lots of different workout
classes that allow women to express their sexuality too. For example,
there are some dance classes that use a stripper pole, which is a great
and creative way to tone the legs and the upper body.

Contemporary Women’s Health and Nutrition

Now, more than ever before, women are
becoming more aware of how to take care of their bodies since
cholesterol and being overweight is an increasing problem amongst many
females. Whereas before women often indulged in starchy foods, there
have been more diets out on the market that use the glycemic index,
which allows a woman to eat things like chocolate, but also to keep her
carbohydrate intake in check.

Also, the increase in organic food
markets has also gotten women thinking about eating healthier, since
these all-natural foods look more appealing (especially in the case of
fruits and vegetables). The idea of eating food that has not been
chemically altered in any way would appeal to anyone, and to have it
taste just as good and be healthy is of course an added bonus.

Women’s Health Research: Institutes and Organizations That Conduct Research on Women’s Health

May 27th, 2007

Have you ever wondered who is behind womens health
research? This informative report can give you an insight into some of
the orgainizations that fund womens health research.

There are very many different institutes and
organizations that have taken women’s health research as their mission
and conduct research on various aspects regarding the health of women.
The aim of most, if not all of these research institutes and
organizations is to focus and promote as well as stimulate and also
support efforts to improve the health of women through conduction of
research projects that deal with various aspects of women’s health.

Better Ways of Providing Better Treatment and Interventions

The Society for Women’s health research is America’s
only organization that does not work on the profit principle and its
mission is to achieve better the health of all women by means of better
research, education and advocacy. The Society for Women’s health
research undertakes research into what are the sex differences between
men and women’s that can help to prevent, diagnose as well as treat
different diseases. There is indeed a strong case for researching
women’s health to understand the unique circumstances that affect their
health needs and it is also vital that women take part in these
research studies, by acting as volunteers.
