Be Aware Before Getting Teeth Whitened
Many of us have habits that lead to stained teeth, including smoking
and drinking coffee and soda. Poor dental hygiene can also contribute
to staining. Teeth whitening industry is big business these days at the
dental office and at the drug store. The teeth whitening process used
to be expensive, but now, with so many over-the-counter products it has
become more affordable. But, excessive use of these products can cause
irreversible damage to your teeth. The over-the-counter products
contain about 10% peroxide–a pretty low percentage. So, if used
correctly, no problem. But, if you use it excessively, it cannot only
damage your enamel, it can burn up your gums badly. The gum tissue will
turn white and sluff off. One must be aware that not every stain can be
removed with these teeth bleaching procedures.
Whatever treatment you choose, over-the-counter or in-office, you need
to be aware of the health of your teeth before you whiten.
