Available Solutions for Psoriasis and Eczema

September 24th, 2008

When rash
appears, tied up with pain and itchy feeling, chances are one’s skin has
developed eczema or psoriasis. That nasty feeling makes this skin disease
problematic. Solutions available are topical therapy, phototherapy, and
systemic therapy. Topical therapy is the most common
treatment to psoriasis. It
is an application of any topical creams, gels, or powder to concerned areas of
the body. Creams are usually in steroid type with vitamin D3. Phototherapy is
an application of light as a medium of treatment. A specific procedure for this
therapy is called Goeckerman Therapy, where affected areas are being put with
coal tar for 2 hours, exposed to UVB light, then moisturizing bath with topical
creams as final touch. Other procedure employs exposure to PUVA light. Experts
also recommend systemic therapy when the two above therapy fails. In this
treatment, a certain substance is used to prevent immune cells from growing and
give skin to restore itself. It can also disrupt the current skin production to
delay further undesired skin development.
